Original Release 7/20/21 at 2:45 p.m:
On December 7, 2020, the Long Beach Police Department’s Homicide Detail was notified by the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner – Coroner of an assault which reportedly occurred on November 24, 2020 and resulted in the death of a male adult.

Homicide Detail personnel were informed of a male adult who was transported from a residence in the 1300 block of Alhambra Court, to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel on November 25, 2020 at approximately 3:49 a.m. Prior to being transported, the male victim informed an acquaintance about a physical assault he endured while at a homeless shelter somewhere in Hollywood or the Hollywood area. There was no suspect description or motive provided. On November 25, 2020, the victim succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.

The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Paul Machado, a person who experienced homelessness in Los Angeles County.

In early 2021, the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner concluded Machado's death was the result of a homicide. Simultaneously, the Police Department began investigating the incident as a murder.

Detectives have spent the past several months attempting to uncover the location of the assault, the motive for the assault, and who is responsible for Machado's death. Detectives welcome any information from the public which can help determine what may have happened and where.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Eric Thai or Juan Carlos Reyes at (562) 570-7244.
