On Sunday, July 21, 2019, at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers responded to an assist fire call in the 1200 block of Molino Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers contacted an adult male victim with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. The Long Beach Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Through their preliminary investigation, Homicide Detectives believe the victim had engaged in a verbal altercation with at least one suspect, which resulted in the shooting. Witnesses describe the suspect as adult male who was last seen fleeing the location on foot.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending a positive identification from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The motive for the shooting is currently unknown, however detectives believe it to be gang-related. Detectives are actively working to gather additional information through the ongoing investigation.
