On Saturday, July 20, 2019, at approximately 10:55 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots being fired in the 1100 block of East 10th Street, which resulted in the death of a female adult.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult female victim with a gunshot wound to her upper torso. The Long Beach Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Through their preliminary investigation, Homicide Detectives believe the suspect(s) was discharging a firearm in the roadway near the victim’s residence when more than one of the shots fired entered the home and struck the victim. At this time, detectives do not believe the victim or her residence were the intended target of the shooting.

“This was a reckless display of criminal behavior.” said Chief of Police Robert G. Luna. “We want to assure the victim’s family and our entire Long Beach community that our department is actively working to further this investigation and will utilize all necessary resources to bring those responsible to justice.”

The victim has been identified as Genoveva Rivera Robles, a 59-year-old resident of Long Beach.

A description of the suspect(s) and the motive for the shooting is currently unknown. Detectives are continuing to gather additional information to further the investigation.

In light of this incident, additional patrols have been added to the impacted area.
