Correction 12/21/23 at 12:45 p.m. - The incident occurred on Dec. 20. 

Homicide detectives are investigating a murder that occurred on Dec. 20, 2023, in the 1000 block of East Pacific Coast Highway.

At approximately 8:09 p.m., officers responded to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with gunshot wounds to the upper body. Officers rendered medical aid until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene. Through their preliminary investigation, detectives determined the victim was shot after being approached by the unknown suspect(s). The suspect(s) fled on foot before police arrived. The motive for the shooting and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.

The victim has been identified as Korey Brown, a 36-year-old resident of Long Beach.
