UPDATE 10/21/20:

On October 8, 2020, Special Investigation Detectives coordinated the arrest of Kumari Powell, an 18-year old resident of Las Vegas, Nevada. Powell was arrested near his residence in the city of Las Vegas. He was booked for fugitive arrest from another state, at that time.

On October 21, 2020, Powell was extradited from Las Vegas, Nevada and booked for murder. He is currently being held in the Long Beach City jail on $2,000,000 bail.

This was the sixth arrest related to the October 6, 2019 murder of Eronald Deas. Deas was 18 years old and was murdered in an ambush style attack near his residence in Long Beach. Detectives believe the incident was gang-related, and the suspects are believed to have gang affiliations; however, the victim did not.

Detectives anticipate presenting the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office later this week for filing consideration. The LBPD would like to thank our partners at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for their assistance in apprehending Powell.
