UPDATED ON 09/06/18 AT 3:30pm:

The Long Beach Police Department is pleased to announce an arrest in connection with the August 16, 2018 murder of 52-year-old Julian Zamora-Uriostegui of Long Beach. 

On September 4, 2018, at approximately 1:30 p.m., homicide detectives arrested 36-year-old Carlos Humberto Reyes at his Los Angeles residence.  Reyes was booked at the Long Beach City Jail on $2,000,000 bail.

Through an extensive investigation, detectives learned Reyes was responsible for Victim Zamora-Uriostegui’s murder, which was a result of blunt force trauma sustained in the area of Atlantic Avenue and South Street.

Today, September 6, 2018, detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, who filed one count of murder.  Once arraigned, Reyes will be held at the Los Angeles County Men’s Jail.

MURDER INVESTIGATION - ATLANTIC AVE. AND SOUTH ST.

On Thursday, August 16, 2018, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a person down in the area of Atlantic Avenue and South Street.

When officers arrived at the location, they found one unidentified adult victim in a nearby lot with injuries to his upper torso. Long Beach Fire Department responded and determined the victim deceased at the scene.

Detectives responded to the scene and are still canvassing the area looking for witnesses and evidence that will help identify a suspect and determine a motive. The investigation remains on-going.

The victim has only been identified as a male adult pending notification of next of kin.
