On Sunday, December 15, 2019 at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of West Anaheim Street regarding an assault, which ultimately resulted in the death of a female adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a female adult victim who had been struck by a vehicle. The Long Beach Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital with life threatening injuries to her upper torso.
The preliminary investigation revealed the victim arrived to the location in a vehicle with a male adult suspect and female adult suspect. The victim was engaged in an argument which escalated to a physical altercation with the female adult suspect. During the altercation, the male adult suspect drove the vehicle striking the victim and then fled the scene.
Homicide detectives were notified and responded to conduct the investigation. Within hours of the incident, detectives identified the suspects involved and located them in two different cities:
On December 17, 2019, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
On December 22, 2019, the Long Beach Police Department was notified the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has been notified of the victim’s death and will continue to coordinate with the police department during the investigation to determine pending charges.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Elizabeth Perez Espino of Long Beach.
