Update 01/21/2022:
On Jan. 12, 2022, at approximately 4:15 p.m., detectives from the Special Investigations Division located and arrested Lajuan Deshaun King, a 30-year-old resident of Long Beach.
King was arrested near his residence in the 1000 block of E 7th Street after Homicide detectives collected evidence of his involvement in the July 11, 2021 shooting death of Bernardo Solorio. The firearm used in the shooting was seized in an unrelated investigation, and detectives believe the firearm was used in additional shootings, which are under investigation.
Following the arrest, a search warrant was served at King’s residence to locate further evidence of the crime. The motive is still under investigation—however, detectives believe it is gang related.
King was booked on one count of murder and held on $2,000,000 bail. On Jan. 14, 2022, detectives presented their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office resulting in one count of murder with a personal use of a firearm.

On July 11, 2021, at approximately 9:13 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the 300 block of East 17th Street, which later resulted in the death of a male adult.
Officers arrived on scene and located a male adult victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the upper and lower torso. They immediately began performing life-saving measures until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene to render aid. The victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Later that evening, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Homicide Detectives responded to the scene after receiving notification the victim succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified as Bernardo Solorio, a 37-year-old Long Beach resident.
The preliminary investigation suggests a male suspect followed the victim on foot to an apartment complex. The suspect opened fire on the victim before fleeing the area on foot toward Long Beach Boulevard. Gang detectives initially responded to canvass the scene for witnesses and evidence. While the motive is not yet known, the case is currently being investigated as gang-related.
