On April 2, 2020 at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of E 21st regarding a report of a possible restraining order violation, which resulted in the death of an adult male and the arrest of an adult male.

Upon arrival, Officers located the male adult victim who had sustained a stab wound to his upper torso. The victim was located in the 2000 block of Linden Ave. Officers performed life saving measures until Long Beach Fire Personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim is only being identified as a 29-year-old resident of Long Beach, pending notification to next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The male adult victim was later determined to be a roommate of the calling party.

The suspect is identified as 19-year-old Edson Rufino who is a resident of Signal Hill.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the calling party had a restraining order against Rufino. Rufino was at the initial location to visit a female adult, who is the daughter of the calling party.

After a verbal dispute in the residence, Rufino left the location with the adult female. The victim armed himself with a metal pole and chased Rufino near the 2000 block of Linden Ave. An altercation ensued between Rufino and the victim, which resulted in the death of the male adult victim.

Rufino and the female adult fled the scene.

On April 3, 2020 detectives located Rufino and the adult female in his vehicle in the area of Willow Street and Pacific Ave. Rufino was taken into custody. Rufino was booked for murder and is currently being held in the Long Beach City Jail on $2,000,000 bail amount.

The female was taken into custody for interrogation and later released.

During the altercation, the female adult sustained injuries to her upper torso but refused medical attention.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
