Original News Release 4/2/21

On April 2, 2021 at approximately 1:34 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shots call in the 1900 block of Canal Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult laying on the ground next to the street in the area of Canal Avenue and Summit Street, who was suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Officers followed a blood trail and located a crime scene in the rear alley area where a male adult was found in a garage suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Officers rendered medical aid to both victims until the Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and determined one male adult was deceased and transported the second male adult to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical, but stable condition.

Based upon the preliminary investigation, detectives believe the victims and the suspect are known to each other and a dispute occurred between them in the garage, at which time the suspect began shooting at the victims. No weapons were located at the scene and the motive is under investigation. The incident is being investigated as being gang-related.

The deceased victim has been identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as 40-year-old Daniel Jacinto, a resident of Long Beach.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is urged to contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Eric Thai or Ethan Shear at (562) 570-7244.
