On Friday, November 2, 2018, Long Beach Police Department Homicide Detectives in conjunction with the S.W.A.T. team executed a search warrant in the City of Lynwood related to the October 9, 2018, murder of 69-year-old Jose Corrales of Long Beach.

Detectives have determined this murder is gang motivated and believe the murder may be correlated to an altercation which occurred earlier that afternoon at Cabrillo High School. Through an extensive investigation and interviews, two suspects were identified and arrested today:

  • 20-year-old Rhyan Burrell of Lynwood was arrested for murder, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, permitting/discharging of a firearm from a vehicle, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and a gang enhancement. Burrell was booked into the Long Beach City Jail and is being held on $2,040,000 bail.
  • 23-year-old Terrel Warren of Long Beach was arrested for murder, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, and a gang enhancement. Warren was booked into the Long Beach City Jail and is being held on $2,040,000 bail.

During their search, detectives recovered three firearms and ammunition. The firearms have been submitted to the Long Beach Crime Lab for forensic analysis. A vehicle was impounded during the execution of the search warrant and is believed to be involved with the murder.

The case is expected to be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office early next week for filing consideration.
