On October 1, 2021, at approximately 11:27 p.m., officers were dispatched to a reported shooting victim near the intersection of 14th Street and Olive Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a male adult lying in the roadway suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body. Officers rendered aid to the victim until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and determined the victim deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and discovered the victim was standing near his residence when at least one suspect approached, possibly from a dark-colored sedan, shot the victim then fled the area before officers arrived on scene. Detectives will continue to investigate the shooting by processing evidence and seeking out additional witnesses and information. While the motive is not yet known, the incident is currently being investigated as gang-related.
The victim has been identified as Tony Chamroeun, a 35-year-old resident of Long Beach.
