Update 06/04/22 at 5:00 p.m.:

The male victim has been identified as 24-year-old Duwayane Thomas, resident of the City of Long Beach.

Original Press Release 06/04/22:

On June 3, 2022, at approximately 10:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 14th Street and Walnut Avenue regarding a shooting, which resulted in the death of a male adult and non-life threatening injuries to a female adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Good Samaritans, who were in the area when the shooting occurred, were rendering aid to the male victim when officers arrived.

While on scene, officers located a female victim near the main crime scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her upper and lower body. Officers rendered life-saving aid to the female victim until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene. LBFD transported both victims to local hospitals for further treatment.

While being treated at the hospital, the male victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The female victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. The preliminary investigation revealed three male adult suspects approached the male victim and discharged their firearms without provocation. As the suspects were fleeing the scene on foot, they discharged their firearms at an unrelated female adult victim who was driving nearby. Both victims are not known to each other and the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

The Department of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner will work to identify the victim and notify the next of kin. At this time, the victim is only being identified as a male adult in his 20s.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Homicide Detectives Eric Thai or Michael Hutchinson at (562) 570-7244.
