On Sunday, August 23, 2015, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shots fired call on Pacific Coast Highway near Pine Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
When officers arrived, they discovered a male adult subject down in the street who had been struck by gunfire. Officers immediately requested Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, and began performing life saving measures until their arrival. The victim was transported to a local hospital, and determined deceased shortly thereafter.
The preliminary investigation determined the victim arrived at a liquor store at that location where an altercation between two groups of males was already occurring. The victim had just gotten out of his vehicle when he was struck in the upper torso by gunfire.
The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Andra Berero of Long Beach. The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.
