On March 10, 2021, Mexican Authorities, U.S. Marshals, and Long Beach Police Department Detectives coordinated the arrest of a suspect in connection to a June 5, 2015 murder in the 5400 block of Elm Avenue.
In November 2015, detectives identified Albert Rodriguez as the suspect who shot and killed 18-year-old Ruben Barrera in the 5400 block of Elm Avenue on June 5, 2015. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and a $2,000,000 arrest warrant was issued for his arrest. Recently, Homicide detectives received information that Rodriguez was in Mexico near the U.S. border and began to coordinate his arrest.
Long Beach Police Department Homicide Detectives coordinated the apprehension efforts with the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Mexican Authorities. This partnership resulted in Rodriguez being arrested in Baja California, Mexico on March 10, 2021.
Mexican Authorities transported 25-year-old Albert Rodriguez to the U.S. border. U.S. Marshals then transported him to the Long Beach City Jail and booked him for murder. He is currently being held on $2,000,000 bail.
