As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance internal and external communications, the Long Beach Police Department has released its 2nd Annual Year in Review and Accountability Report.  

This report includes notable achievements from 2023 as well as information about our department demographics and staffing, organizational structure, 2023 year-end crime statistics, and efforts to keep our Long Beach community safe.  

This report also includes our Professional Standards Division Accountability Report, which includes statistical information about complaints investigated by the LBPD Internal Affairs Section. 

As I reflect on this past year, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the men and women of the Long Beach Police Department,” said Chief of Police Wally Hebeish.The employees of this department have demonstrated resilience and perseverance during some of the most challenging times in our profession. As we move into 2024, we are prioritizing ways to address high crime categories through collaboration and partnerships, as well as how we can modernize our services.” 

Some notable 2023 accomplishments include a 9.7% decrease in shootings, 27.8% decrease in murders, 80.7% murder clearance rate, and 20% decrease in traffic fatalities, compared to 2022. The LBPD responded to an average of 568 calls for service each day, with a priority 1 response time of 5.6 minutes. Officers made 3,614 felony arrests and recovered over 760 firearms.
