CORRECTION 2/14/2024 at 4:20 p.m. : The suspect is correctly listed as 34 years old, not 29 years old as previously listed.

Officers and detectives have arrested the suspect responsible for the kidnapping of a 4-year-old boy on Feb. 13, 2024.

On Feb. 13, 2024, at approximately 5:46 p.m., officers and detectives immediately responded to the area of 1st Street and Linden Avenue regarding a kidnapping of a 4-year-old boy —who was kidnapped when his parent’s car was stolen with him inside.

Upon arrival, officers began searching the area for the child and the vehicle as well as to locate security video and witnesses. Our partners at California Highway Patrol put out an Amber Alert to notify our community of the missing child, who subsequently aided officers in their search. We are incredibly grateful for the efforts of our community.

After about two hours, the child was located near the original scene, unharmed, and was reunited with his parents. The child and vehicle were located in the 100 block of South Pine Avenue.

The vehicle was located by two Good Samaritans who found the car and immediately called 9-1-1. We would like to thank them for this act of heroism in finding this young boy.

After the vehicle was located, officers and detectives located security video and were able to follow the suspect’s direction of travel away from where he abandoned the vehicle with the child inside. Through their efforts, officers found the suspect near Pine Avenue and Shoreline Drive, and safely arrested him. He has been identified as 34-year-old Timothy Wood, a person experiencing homelessness. He was booked for kidnapping, child endangerment, and stolen vehicle. His bail is $100,000.

The investigation is ongoing.
