As part of the department’s commitment to communications, Chief Wally Hebeish is pleased to announce the creation of a new command-level position – Executive Communications Officer – and the promotion of Public Information Officer Allison Gallagher to fill the role.
A key priority for the Long Beach Police Department is efficient and effective internal and external communications, built on a foundation of accountability, transparency, and trust. The Executive Communications Officer (ECO) position was established to play a central role in advancing the Chief’s vision for enhanced communications and to implement the Department’s strategic communications plan. Reporting directly to the Chief of Police, the ECO will be responsible for enhancing the Department’s communication with the Long Beach community as well as LBPD personnel in an engaging and thoughtful manner. The ECO will oversee the activities and initiatives of the Department’s Communications Division, including a team of four public information officers.
“I am pleased to promote Allison Gallagher to be the LBPD’s first Executive Communications Officer,” said Chief Hebeish. “Allison’s selection comes after a robust and competitive process that drew nationwide interest from highly qualified candidates. Her performance throughout her career as well as her passion and care for our city and department made her the best candidate for this position.”
Allison has over eight years of experience in communications and public affairs. Prior to joining the LBPD in August 2020, she worked in various government and non-profit offices, gaining experience in public affairs, communications, legislation, and community engagement. Since joining the Department, Allison has been an integral part of the LBPD’s expansion of its social media footprint and increasing transparency through public communications as a public information officer.
Allison Gallagher holds a Master of Public Administration Degree and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Political Science, both from California State University, Long Beach.
