CORRECTION: 1/28/21 at 6:30 p.m- The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene, not at a local hospital like previously reported.

On Jan. 28, 2021, at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2600 Block of 56th Street regarding a stabbing between roommates, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Once on scene, officers located a victim suffering from stabbing wounds to the upper torso, who reported being attacked by his roommate. Officers rendered medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department Personnel arrived on scene and determined the victim to be deceased at the scene.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the victim and a male adult suspect were both inside of their residence when a dispute ensued between them and escalated into the stabbing. At this time, the victim is only being identified as a male adult ; the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner-Coroner will work to identify the victim and notify next of kin.

The suspect remained on scene and has been cooperating with the investigation, which remains ongoing. At this time, the investigation to determine if the suspect was a victim of a crime is underway, their identity is not yet being released, and the motive for the incident is currently under investigation.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is urged to contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Adrian Garcia or Sean Magee at (562) 570-7244.
