Homicide detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with the December 21, 2023 murder near the 200 Block of Eagle Street.

On May 2, 2024 at approximately 7:50 a.m., Special Investigations Division Detectives arrested Bryan Lopez, a 42-year-old resident of Long Beach for the December 21, 2023, murder of Ismael Cuevas, a 28-year-old resident of the City of Long Beach.

Detectives located Lopez in the City of Long Beach near the 2800 block of Pacific Avenue and subsequently took him into custody. He was booked for one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and violation of his probation. He is currently being held on a $3,000,000 bail.

Detectives subsequently served a search warrant at Lopez’ residence in the City of Long Beach and a search warrant for his residence in the City of Los Angeles.

Detectives have presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.

Homicide detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred on Dec. 21, 2023 in the 200 block of Eagle Street.

At approximately 10:21 p.m., officers responded to a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two male adult victims. Victim #1 sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body. Victim #2 sustained a gunshot wound to an extremity. Officers rendered medical aid to both victims until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department personnel. The determined victim #1 was deceased at the scene and transported victim #2 to a local hospital where his condition is listed as stable.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident. At this time, the motive for the shooting and the circumstances of the incident are unknown.

Victim #1 has been identified as Ismael Cuevas, a 28-year-old residence of Long Beach.
