On August 29, 2019 at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1200 block of W. Hill Street regarding a report of a shooting, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the resident, an adult male, and located an unresponsive adult male subject lying in the yard of the residence with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Long Beach Fire personnel responded and determined the male subject deceased at the scene. The resident was transported to a local hospital with significant injuries to his upper torso.

The preliminary investigation revealed the male subject and the resident are known to each other. The male subject entered the property to confront the resident about a personal dispute between them. The confrontation quickly escalated to a violent physical assault upon the resident. During the assault, the resident discharged a firearm at the male subject, dialed 9-1-1 to report the incident, and began performing life-saving measures until police and fire personnel arrived.

The decedent has been identified as Daniel Siordia, a 35-year-old resident of Paramount.

The firearm used in the incident was located at the scene and determined to be legally registered to the resident. The firearm was located by detectives and will be processed by the Long Beach Police Department’s Forensic Science Services Division. Detectives believe the resident acted in self-defense and was not arrested and is cooperating with detectives as the investigation continues.
