On February 10, 2020, a male adult victim was riding his bike along the San Gabriel River Trail when he was assaulted and robbed by a group of juveniles. During the incident, several juvenile subjects punched and kicked the victim, knocking him to the ground. Once the victim laid injured, some of the juveniles went through his pockets and stole his wallet and cellphone. After robbing the victim, several of the juveniles threw the victim's bicycle onto the rocks along the riverbed embankment, causing damage to the bicycle.
The victim received medical attention at a local hospital after sustaining bruising and lacerations to his upper torso that were inflicted during the assault.
The incident was initially reported to the Seal Beach Police Department who later transferred the investigation to the Long Beach Police Department Robbery Detail after it was determined that the crime occurred in the City of Long Beach. During the investigation, Robbery Detail Detectives were able to locate video evidence documenting the assault and robbery, which assisted in identifying some of the subjects.
On May 8, 2020, detectives presented their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office who filed one count of Robbery and one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Likely to Inflict Great Bodily Injury, against each of the four juveniles.
On May 11, 2020, the juvenile subjects attended court and three of the four subjects were released on house arrest.
Detectives are currently seeking the public's assistance in identifying and locating additional subjects who were present during the assault.
