Officers from the Long Beach Police Department’s DUI Enforcement Team will be deploying this weekend to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers in the Department’s ongoing traffic safety campaign. DUI Saturation Patrols will deploy on Saturday July 18, 2015 between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests.

Over the course of the past three years in Long Beach, DUI collisions have claimed 9 lives and injured 315 others.

DUI incidents do not just affect those involved. In addition to pain and suffering, DUI’s also have an effect on the economy. Conservatively the monetary impact of DUI incidents is $1.4 million for a fatality, $70,000 for an injury, and an average of $9,000.00 for a crash that only damages property.

The program was funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
