On July 15, 2006, at approximately 07:55 a.m., officers responded to the 710 freeway near Pacific Coast Highway regarding a possible dead body, which resulted in the discovery of a deceased female adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a female adult who was unresponsive. Long Beach Fire Paramedics responded and determined the victim deceased at the scene.  Homicide Detectives responded to the scene and later observed an injury consistent with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

The victim was positively identified as Tyquesha Myers, a 20-year-old resident of Long Beach.

After new evidence was recently introduced to the case, detectives arrested Carl Mayes, a 41 -year-old resident of San Pedro on Friday, September 13, 2019.  Mayes was the live-in boyfriend of Myers at the time of the murder and the motive is believed to be domestic violence-related.  Mayes was booked for murder and is being held at the Long Beach City Jail on $2,000,000 bail.
