Two concurrent investigations have resulted in charges being filed against a business owner after his arrest on drug possession charges.

In May of 2017, the Drug Investigations Section (DIS) received information regarding drug sales taking place at Rolli’s Smoke Shop, located at 2327 E. Anaheim Street. During their investigation, South Division patrol officers came across the same location on a separate investigation. On August 17, 2017, patrol officers served a search warrant and during the search, located varying amounts of marijuana, concentrated cannabis, cocaine, Ecstasy pills, Xanax pills, and psilocybin mushrooms, in addition to two handguns, a shotgun, and ammunition. The owner of the business, identified as 21-year-old Mario Quinonez of Long Beach, was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics for sale. He was held on $50,000 bail at the Long Beach City Jail until posting bail and was released.

After the arrest, the DIS continued their investigation and on September 26, 2017, served a second search warrant at the location. During the search, two pounds of marijuana and an ounce of cocaine were confiscated. Quinonez was present at the location when the search warrant was served and was again arrested. He was booked for sales of methamphetamine, and possession for sale of marijuana, and was held on $60,000 bail. In addition, 22-year-old Miguel Angel Medina of Long Beach was also arrested. Medina was booked for possession for sale of cocaine and was held on $30,000 bail. Both suspects posted bail and were released.

On October 12, 2017, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, and the following charges were filed:

Mario Quinonez - 3 counts of sales of a controlled substance
Miguel Angel Medina - 1 count of possession for sale of a controlled substance

Both defendants are expected to appear in Long Beach Superior Court for their arraignment on October 18, 2017, in Dept. S01. Additionally, the Drug Investigations Section will be working with the City’s Business License Division regarding the business.
