Quality of Life officer assists resident experiencing homelessness find a permanent home
Release Date: 2023-02-25
Our Quality of Life (QOL) officers make the effort to build connections everyday with members of our community who are experiencing homelessness. These relationships are imperative in providing resources for these residents, and that couldn’t be more evident than with LBPD Officer Tith and his relationship with Long Beach resident, Myesha.
For the past five years, Officer Tith has had many interactions with Myesha, even as a patrol officer prior to his time on the QOL team. During that time, one thing became glaringly evident—Myesha was the heart and soul of the homeless community near the Anaheim Corridor.
She would regularly cook, provide shelter, and generally help any of the unhoused residents in her community. Often looked upon as a “neighborhood mom,” Myesha was always a giver, and would often refuse services and offers to find shelter.
As a result of countless of conversations and personal connections with Officer Tith, Myesha finally accepted services and was able to obtain permanent housing. After years of being unhoused and helping others going through the same journey, Myesha is now off the streets and has a roof over her head to call home.
In addition to our great QOL Team, this incredible success couldn’t have been accomplished without our partners at the City of Long Beach Multi-Service Center and Mental Health America.
