LBPD Seeks the Public's Help Identifying Suspects for Recent Burglaries Involving KnoxBoxes

Release Date: 2023-12-29

The Long Beach Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying suspects responsible for three recent burglary incidents involving KnoxBoxes.

These incidents occurred in the early morning hours of 12/18, 12/22, and 12/25 in the downtown area. In each of the recent incidents, the suspect(s) make entry into the building’s KnoxBox, remove the building key fob, and then steal packages/mail from the building’s mail/storage room.

At this time, it is not known if these incidents are related to one another. The suspects have gained entry only to building common spaces. KnoxBoxes do not contain keys to residences. Burglary detectives are actively investigating these incidents.

We’ve increased our patrols in the downtown area and have officers engaging with residents and businesses, sharing safety tips. Here’s some safety tips:

  • Always “See Something, Say Something.” Call Police Dispatch at 562.435.6711 to report suspicious activity. Call 9-1-1 for emergencies.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Do not let people you do not know into your building.
  • Keep residential buildings and businesses well lit.
  • If you see suspicious activity, report it immediately.
  • Do not leave packages or mail in common spaces of your building.
  • If you notice your Knox Box has been tampered with, report it immediately by calling 562.435.6711.
