LBPD North Division officers, MET and SWAT safely de-escalate a person with a gun call.

On July
27, 2023, at approximately 8:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Market Street regarding a person with a gun call. Upon arrival, officers contacted man who was seated on a bench in the pool area of a residential community. Officers made verbal contact the man and attempted to get him to comply to their commands, which he refused.
 

While officers were on the scene, they gathered information from residents at the complex stating earlier that evening the man was seen loading a firearmFor over two hoursNorth Division officers and the Mental Evaluation Team (MET) attempted to de-escalate situation by talking to the man, in an attempt to get him safely into their custody. They brought in the officers from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team personnel for additional resources and were eventually able to detain the manAs officers continued their investigation, they found a large folding knife, a pellet gun inside a holster that was located on the man and a rifltype pellet gun inside of a suitcase that he was in possession of. The man was taken to a local hospital for – mental evaluation.
