As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Recap of Overnight Incidents

Barricaded Suspect – 100 block of Pine Ave - Final Update - 5:20 p.m.

Update: Officers established a perimeter around the suspect’s location and activated SWAT resources, who responded to the scene. After obtaining a search warrant, SWAT officers entered the business to search for the suspect.

SWAT has concluded their search and the suspect remains outstanding.

On Sept. 23, 2025 at about 2:03 a.m., officers were flagged down near 1st Street and Broadway regarding a person with a gun. The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult suspect entered a business and robbed the store. The employees were able to run out of the store and flag down police officers. The suspect is inside the business and refusing to surrender. The SWAT Team has responded.

Due to the police activity, road closures are in effect:

• Broadway from Pacific Avenue to Long Beach Boulevard
• Pine Avenue from 1st Street to 3rd Street

This is an ongoing incident; more information to follow.

Traffic Fatality – Cherry Avenue and Curry Street 
On Sept. 23, 2025 at about 4:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to Cherry Avenue and Curry Street regarding an injury traffic accident, involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The pedestrian was determined deceased at the scene. Due to the ongoing investigation, Cherry Avenue is closed at Curry Street. The investigation is ongoing. More information will be in a news release later today.
