Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!
As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department will begin posting information about recent police activity, ongoing investigations, and other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website.
At approximately 10:00 a.m. each day, community members will be able to read preliminary information about incidents that may have occurred the previous evening, including shootings, stabbings, traffic fatality, and murder investigations, as well as any other notable incidents. This page will be a resource for the public to learn more about enforcement efforts, arrests, and commendable events and will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- Officers Investigate a stabbing incident - UPDATE 9/10/22, 9:58 p.m. - A correction was made below in bold to reflect the accurate date and time.
UPDATE 9/10/22, 3:30 p.m. - One of the male adult victims has succumbed to their injuries. A news release regarding this incident is forthcoming.
On September 9, 2022 at approximately 11:44 p.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of Broadway regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers contacted two male adult victims suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body. Officers rendered aid to the victims until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department personnel, who transported the victims to a local hospital. The preliminary investigation suggests the victims got into a verbal altercation with an unknown male adult suspect. This altercation escalated when the suspect stabbed both victims and fled in an unknown direction prior to officers’ arrival. No additional suspect information is known at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. - Officers Investigate a hit-shooting - On September 9, 2022 at approximately 6:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of West Spring Street regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks, indicating a shooting occurred. While at the scene, officers were notified that the victims of the shooting self-transported to a local hospital for their injuries. When officers arrived at the hospital, they contacted one male adult victim and two female adult victims. All three victims suffered from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper body. The preliminary investigation suggests the victims were in the 2000 block of West Spring Street when they were approached by an unknown vehicle with an unknown number of occupants, which subsequently resulted in the occupant(s) discharging their firearm(s) at the victims, striking them. The vehicle fled in an unknown direction before officers arrived on scene. No other injuries were reported, the motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
- Officers Investigate a stabbing incident - On September 9, 2022 at approximately 6:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of East Artesia Boulevard regarding an assist fire call that was later determined to be a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female adult victim with non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body who stated she was walking in the area when she was approached by an unknown male suspect demanding her personal belongings. When the victim refused to surrender her items, the altercation escalated which resulted in the suspect stabbing the victim. The suspect fled in an unknown direction prior to officers’ arrival. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital for her injuries. No additional suspect information is known, and the investigation is ongoing.
