Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!
As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department will begin posting information about recent police activity, ongoing investigations, and other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website.
At approximately 10:00 a.m. each day, community members will be able to read preliminary information about incidents that may have occurred the previous evening, including shootings, stabbings, traffic fatality, and murder investigations, as well as any other notable incidents. This page will be a resource for the public to learn more about enforcement efforts, arrests, and commendable events and will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- Officers investigate a negligent discharge of a firearm: On Oct. 29, 2022, at approximately 12:09 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Nylic Court and 10th Street regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. Officers were unable to locate any victims or suspects related to the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
- Officers recover a firearm on a traffic stop and arrest suspect: Yesterday, an officer on patrol in the area of 5th Street and Park Avenue observed a vehicle with multiple vehicle code violations. The officer stopped the vehicle and detained both occupants. During their investigation, officers located an unregistered firearm and ammunition in the car and subsequently arrested the driver. The driver is identified as Johnny Carreon, a 27-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked for drivingwith a suspended/revoked license, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, and prohibited person in possession of a firearm. His bail is set at $35,000. We commend these officers for recovering the firearm and safely arresting the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
- Officers recover a knife and arrest suspect in the Downtown Entertainment District: On Tuesday morning, at approximately 11:38 a.m., officers responded to a report of a male adult suspect with a knife at a business in the 300 block of The Promenade North. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim who stated the suspect brandished a kitchen knife while attempting to steal products from the store. Officers found the suspect in the area, arrested him, and recovered the knife. The suspect is identified as a John Doe and was booked for exhibiting a deadly weapon – not firearm. His bail is set at $25,000. Thank you to the responding officers for safely apprehending the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
