Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- SWAT Activation Results in Arrest of Stabbing Suspect - Yesterday at approximately 6:56 p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Locust Avenue regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body. Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. Responding officers attempted to make contact with a male adult suspect, however he barricaded himself inside of a residence. Preliminary investigation suggests the victim was in a verbal altercation with the suspect, which resulted in the suspect stabbing the victim. Officers established a perimeter, the SWAT team was activated, and nearby residents evacuated and/or sheltered in place. Officers made contact with the suspect, negotiators attempted to deescalate the situation for several hours, but the suspect refused to surrender. A short while later, a use of force occurred, and the suspect was taken into custody. The Long Beach Fire Department who was already on scene, transported the victim to a local hospital for his injuries. Once the suspect is medically cleared, he will be transported to Long Beach City Jail where he will be booked. The investigation is ongoing.
This information is preliminary and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.
