Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers Investigate the Shooting Death of a Man - Last night, at approximately 8:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Anaheim Street and Roswell Avenue regarding a gunshot wound victim inside a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers rendered aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was later determined deceased. At this time, the motive for the shooting is unknown. Homicide detectives responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing. A news release with additional information regarding the incident will be published later today on our press release page here
    • Officers arrest a suspect in a no-hit shooting incident - Last night, at approximately 6:57 p.m., officers responded to the 3600 Block of East 7th Street regarding a shots call, later determined to be an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers determined that a suspect discharged a firearm and fled the scene in a black vehicle. Officers canvassed the area and located a vehicle matching the suspect's vehicle description near the 700 block of Loma Avenue, and subsequently arrested the driver and seized a firearm from inside the vehicle. Through their investigation, officers discovered the suspect entered into a dispute with a male adult victim that escalated to the shooting.  The suspect was identified as Joshua Adolfo Martinez, a 20-year-old resident of Long Beach who was booked for one count of assault with a firearm on a person, one count of simple possession of a controlled substance, and one count of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. Bail was set at $50,000.  No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
