As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department will begin posting information about recent police activity, ongoing investigations, and other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website.
At approximately 10:00 a.m. each day, community members will be able to read preliminary information about incidents that may have occurred the previous evening, including shootings, stabbings, traffic fatality, and murder investigations, as well as any other notable incidents. This page will be a resource for the public to learn more about enforcement efforts, arrests, and commendable events and will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
Officers investigate a hit shooting: On July 4, 2022 at approximately 10:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to a local hospital regarding a male victim with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim who stated he was walking near the 6200 block of De Forest Avenue when he sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. The victim did not hear any gunshots and self-transported to a local hospital. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Officers investigate a hit shooting: On July 5, 2022 at approximately 12:23 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Rose Avenue regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. At this time, no suspect information is available and the motive for the shooting is unknown. Detectives were notified and responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Officers investigate a no-hit shooting: On July 4, 2022 at approximately 10:11 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and Plymouth Street regarding an injury hit and run traffic collision. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult suspect who was involved in a traffic collision and appeared to have been physically assaulted. Through their investigation, officers determined the suspect struck a male adult victim and male juvenile victim as they crossed the street. The suspect failed to stop after striking the victims and fled the scene. As the suspect fled the scene, he crashed into a parked vehicle that was occupied by a female adult victim. After the collision, the suspect was physically assaulted by multiple male adult suspects. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. While on scene, officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers' arrival. The original suspect was not struck by gunfire. The victims of the initial vehicle collision were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives were notified and responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Officers investigate a negligent discharge of a firearm: On July 5, 2022 at approximately 4:32 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of Caspian Avenue regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male and female victim who stated they were in an argument with a male suspect. During the argument, the suspect fired a handgun into the air and fled the scene. The victim’s were not struck by gunfire. The investigation is ongoing.
Officers investigate a stabbing: On July 4, 2022 at approximately 8:28 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Shoreline Drive regarding an assault with a knife. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim who stated he was in an argument with a male suspect. During the argument, the male suspect assaulted the victim with a knife. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to the upper body. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. The investigation is ongoing.
