LBPD Blotter – July 3, 2022

Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department will begin posting information about recent police activity, ongoing investigations, and other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website.

At approximately 10:00 a.m. each day, community members will be able to read preliminary information about incidents that may have occurred the previous evening, including shootings, stabbings, traffic fatality, and murder investigations, as well as any other notable incidents. This page will be a resource for the public to learn more about enforcement efforts, arrests, and commendable events and will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

• There were no shootings or stabbings reported overnight. 

• *Update 7/3/22 5:20 p.m.: Officers investigating a hit shooting On 7/3/22, at approximately 11:45 a.m., officers responded to the 1400 block of Magnolia Avenue regarding a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old female victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body. Through their investigation, officers determined the victim was setting up for a fundraising event in a parking lot near the area when she became involved in an altercation with an unknown number of suspects.  A short time later, an unknown suspect shot the victim.  Detectives are investigating to determine if there is any connection between the altercation and the shooting. The suspect(s) fled the scene prior to officers arrival. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where she was listed in stable condition. Officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the incident. At this time, no suspect information is available. While the investigation remains ongoing, detectives do not believe the motive for the shooting is related to the fundraising event; however, detectives do believe the motive is gang-related. The investigation is ongoing.

The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where she was listed in stable condition. Officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. Officers are currently on the scene conducting their investigation. At this time, no suspect information is available and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing. *Please note that at the time of this posting, officers are still on scene and information is still developing* 

• *Update 7/3/22 at 4:05 p.m.:- Officers arrest suspect in non-fatal stabbing  On 7/3/2022, at approximately 3:08 p.m.. officers responded to the area of Ocean Boulevard and Lindero Avenue regarding a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim suffering from stab wounds to the upper body. Through their investigation, officers determined the victim was in the area when he entered into a verbal dispute with a male adult suspect that escalated to the stabbing. Responding officers located the suspect nearby, arrested him, and seized a knife. The Long Beach Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

*Update 7/3/22 at 5:20 p.m.: The preliminary information regarding the hit shooting that occurred near the 1400 block of Magnolia Avenue was updated.

*Update 7/3/22 at 4:15 p.m.: This page was updated to include information regarding the arrest of a suspect involved in a non-fatal stabbing.
