LBPD Blotter – July 29, 2022

Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department will begin posting information about recent police activity, ongoing investigations, and other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website.

At approximately 10:00 a.m. each day, community members will be able to read preliminary information about incidents that may have occurred the previous evening, including shootings, stabbings, traffic fatality, and murder investigations, as well as any other notable incidents. This page will be a resource for the public to learn more about enforcement efforts, arrests, and commendable events and will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

Officers investigate a no-hit shooting: On July 28, 2022 at approximately 6:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of West 49th Street regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. Officers were unable to locate any victim(s) or suspect(s) on scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers investigate an accidental discharge: On July 28, 2022 at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to a local hospital regarding a male adult with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. Upon arrival, officers contacted the man who stated he heard gunshots outside of his residence. The man retrieved his rifle inside of his residence and accidentally shot himself in lower body. The man self-transported to a local hospital. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers investigate an undetermined death: On July 29, 2022 at approximately 12:28 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Gundry Avenue to assist the Long Beach Fire Department regarding an injured person. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male adult. Long Beach Fire Department personnel rendered aid, but determined the man deceased. The incident is being investigated as an undetermined death. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and will work to determine the cause of death and notify the next of kin. At this time, the decedent is being identified as a 33-year-old male pending next of kin notification by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office. The investigation is ongoing.
