Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
-
Officers arrest suspect responsible for a hit-shooting and carjacking that occurred overnight: On Dec 11th, 2022, at approximately 11:06 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Artesia Boulevard regarding a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical, but stable condition. The preliminary investigation revealed that two victims were near the area when they were approached by the suspect on a bicycle. The group entered into a verbal dispute that escalated to the shooting, resulting in one victim sustaining a gunshot wound; the other victim was not injured. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers arrival. Officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. Gang Detectives responded to the scene to further the investigation.
A short time later, at approximately 11:22 p.m., officers were flagged down near the 6700 block of Paramount Boulevard by a female adult victim who stated she was carjacked. The victim further stated she was near her vehicle when she was approached by a male adult suspect who asked for a ride then produced a gun and threatened to shoot her. The victim ran from the scene and the suspect subsequently took the victim's vehicle and was last seen traveling northbound on Paramount Boulevard. The victim was not injured during the incident.
Several hours later, on Dec 12th, 2022 at approximately 1:22 a.m., The Downey Police Department advised LBPD that the carjacked vehicle was located after being involved in a single-vehicle traffic collision with a pole in their jurisdiction. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle.
Gang detectives responded to the hospital, identified the driver as the suspect involved in the shooting and carjacking, and took him into custody. The suspect was identified as Jeffrey Vierregger, a 50-year-old resident of Long Beach who will be booked for attempted murder and carjacking-related charges. The investigation is ongoing.
