Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- Officers investigate a traffic collision later determined to be a hit shooting and arrest a suspect - This morning, at approximately 2:33 a.m., officers responded to the area of East 7th Street and Park Avenue regarding a traffic collision, which was later determined to be a hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles involved in a traffic collision and discovered evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. Through their preliminary investigation officers determined two vehicles, vehicle #1 and vehicle #2, had been involved in a road rage incident that escalated to an exchange of gunfire between both parties. As the incident unfolded, vehicle #1 collided with an uninvolved vehicle which then collided into an unoccupied residence. The occupants of vehicle #1, and vehicle #2, fled the scene prior to officers arrival. Other officers responded to a local hospital regarding a report of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, officers contacted three adults who were determined to be occupants of vehicle #1. One female adult sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body; the other occupants sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Officers determined the driver of vehicle #1 was a shooting suspect and subsequently arrested him and seized a firearm. The suspect was identified as Jean Claude Lewis, a 48-year-old resident of Long Beach, arrested for one count of carrying a loaded firearm, and one count of driving with a suspended license. Bail was set at $60,000. The suspect driving vehicle #2, a male adult, remains outstanding. The investigation is ongoing.
- Officers Investigate No-Hit Shoting -Last night, at approximately 9:24 p.m. patrol officers working near the 1900 block of Pine Avenue heard shots and began canvassing the area. Officers located evidence, including casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. At this time, no injuries were reported, no suspect information is available, and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
This information is preliminary and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report.
