As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

Officers investigate a negligent discharge of a firearm: On Sept. 7, 2023, at approximately 8:53 p.m., officers responded to the 1400 block of Cota Avenue regarding a shots call.Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including bullet casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. No injuries were reported, no suspect information is known, and the motive for the shooting is unknown.

Officers responded to a traffic fatality - On Sept. 7, 2023, at 10:39 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Pacific Avenue and 23^rd Street regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a male adult. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male adult victim. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and performed life-saving medical aid; however, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
