As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

UPDATE 9/5/2023 at 12:05 p.m. in bold.

  • Officers investigate a shooting: On Sept. 4, 2023, at approximately 6:35 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Harding Avenue regarding a shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates that the male adult victim and a group of friends were in a dispute with two suspects, which escalated when one of the suspects shot the victim in the upper body. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived. Good Samaritans transported the victim to a local hospital where his condition was stabilized. Officers located evidence, including bullet casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Officers investigate a negligent discharge of a firearm: On Sept. 4, 2023, around 9:40 p.m., officers responded to the 6100 block of Linden Avenue regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned an altercation between a group of subjects escalated when a male adult discharged a firearm. The suspect fled the area before officers arrived. No one was injured. All the subjects are known to one another. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Officers investigate a shooting: On Sept. 5, 2023, at approximately 12:10 a.m., officers responded to the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue regarding a shooting. Officers located one male adult victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel provided medical aid and transported the victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates that a group of male adult suspects, that were standing on the sidewalk, fired shots at the victim’s vehicle as it drove by, striking the victim. Officers located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks, indicating a shooting had occurred. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
  • Officers respond to possible attempted suicide: On Sept. 5, 2023, at approximately 5:20 a.m., officers responded to the 5300 block of Village Road regarding a man with a gunshot wound. The incident is being investigated a suicide attempt. The man was transported to a local hospital by LBFD in critical condition.
