As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

Officers investigate a shooting: On Sept. 17, 2023, at approximately 11:38 p.m., officers responded to the 2500 block of East 67th Street, regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including casings and strike marks, indicating a shooting occurred. While conducting their investigation, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body who returned to the scene after previously fleeing for his safety. Long Beach Fire Department personnel provided medical aid and transported the victim to a local hospital. The preliminary investigation indicates three male adult victims were on the sidewalk when they were approached by two male adult suspects, who began to argue with them. The argument escalated when one of the suspects fired a gun at the victims, striking one of them in the lower body. The victims ran away, and the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers investigate a fatal traffic collision: On Sept. 18, 2023, at approximately 3:22 a.m., officers responded to the 300 Block of Mediterranean Way, regarding a single vehicle traffic collision which resulted in the death of a male adult. Upon arrival, officers located the unresponsive male adult driver. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and determined the driver to be deceased. The investigation is ongoing. A news release detailing the incident is forthcoming and will be posted here.
