Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!
As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- Officers investigate a shooting: On Oct. 22, 2023, at approximately 9:39 p.m., officers responded to the area of La Reina Way and Park Court regarding a shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates that a male adult suspect was standing outside and fired multiple shots. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Officers located evidence that a shooting had occurred, including strike marks and casings. Suspect information and motive for the shooting is under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
- Officers investigate a burglary with SWAT activation: This morning, at approximately 2:01 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Ellis Street regarding a burglary in progress. The calling party reported there were two hostages in the residence and the suspects were armed. Officers responded and SWAT was activated. SWAT officers began de-escalating the situation and the suspects surrendered. The two hostages were brought to safety; they did not sustain any injuries. A total of four male adult suspects have been arrested, and they are being booked into Long Beach City Jail. Officers recovered firearms at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
