As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Officers are investigating a shooting in the area of 51st Street and Pacific Avenue. We have a heavy police presence in the area. As a precaution, Lindsey Academy was on lockdown, but is now open. More information to follow.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers investigate a shooting – 2100 block of Bellflower Boulevard: On Oct. 15, 2023 at approximately 3:33 p.m., officers responded to the 2100 block of Bellflower Boulevard regarding a shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates the female adult victim was walking in a parking lot when a vehicle stopped in her path. A male suspect exited the vehicle and pointed a gun at the victim while demanding her purse. The victim attempted to flee but the suspect caught up to her. During a physical altercation, the suspect shot the victim in the lower body. The suspect took the purse and fled the scene in the vehicle. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. Officers located evidence, including casings.   • Officers investigate a shooting – Artesia Boulevard and Butler Avenue: On Oct. 15, 2023 at approximately 5:44 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Butler Avenue regarding a shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates a male adult victim was sitting in his parked vehicle when two male suspects fired guns toward his vehicle, striking him in the upper body. The suspects fled the scene on foot before police arrived. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the victim to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. Officers located evidence, including strike marks, casings, and bullet fragments. Suspect information and motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

Update 2:40 p.m.

  • Officers and detectives are investigating a murder in the area of 51st Street and Pacific Avenue. At approximately 11:25 a.m., officers responded to a shooting which resulted in the death of a male adult victim. The male adult victim self-transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Suspect information and motive for the shooting is under investigation. Homicide detectives responded to the scene to further the investigation. Our Neighborhood Safety Bike Team will be in the area today and tomorrow to engage with our community.
