As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.


Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers investigate a stabbing: On September 30, 2023 at approximately 8:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to an out of city hospital regarding a stabbing victim for an incident that occurred in Long Beach. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim who self-transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening stab wounds to the upper body. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was in an unknown area of Long Beach, when an unknown suspect stabbed him with an unknown object. The victim was uncooperative in providing additional details of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Officers investigate a no-hit shooting: On September 30, 2023 at approximately 8:37 p.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of Delta Avenue regarding a no-hit shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two male adult victims. The victims stated they observed two male adult suspects near their vehicle, outside their residence. The suspects revealed a firearm and after a brief verbal altercation, subsequently discharged a firearm towards the victims direction, striking their vehicle. Officers located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks indicating a shooting had occurred. At this time, no suspect information is available, and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Officers investigate a negligent discharge of a firearm: On September 30, 2023 at approximately 10:25 p.m., officers responded to the 6900 block of Orcutt Avenue regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including bullet casing indicating a shooting had occurred. No injuries were reported, no suspect information is known, and the motive for the shooting is unknown.

  • Officers investigate a shooting into an inhabited dwelling: On September 30, 2023 at approximately 10:16 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of East 17th Street regarding a shooting into an inhabited dwelling. Upon arrival, officers contacted the calling party, who found their residence had been struck by gunfire. Officers located ballistic evidence, including strike marks, indicating a shooting had occurred. No suspect information is known this time. The investigation is ongoing
