As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:
- Officers investigate a shooting: On Nov. 9, 2023 at approximately 6:08 a.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Maine Avenue regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including bullet casings. The suspect(s) fled the scene before police arrived. Suspect information and motive for the shooting is under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE 5:15 p.m. + 7:00 p.m. - TRAFFIC COLLISION
- Officers investigate traffic collision: At approximately 3:15 p.m. LBPD responded to a traffic collision at South Street and California Avenue involving a Long Beach Transit bus, a vehicle, and a building. At this time, it appears that multiple people were injured, with injuries ranging from minor to critical-but-stable. South Street is currently closed to through traffic from Myrtle Avenue to Lewis Avenue. UPDATE 7PM: The preliminary investigation suggests a sedan was traveling southbound on California Avenue through an intersection, when it collided with a Long Beach Transit bus, resulting in both vehicles colliding into a building. The sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the posted stop sign. At this time, there are multiple reports of injuries, ranging from minor to critical-but-stable. Collision Investigations detectives responded and the investigation remains ongoing.
