Welcome to the LBPD Blotter!

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.


Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers investigate a shooting: On Nov. 8, 2023 at approximately 5:01 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of 14th Street and Locust Avenue regarding a shooting report. Upon arrival, officers located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks. The suspect(s) fled the scene before police arrived. Suspect information and motive for the shooting is under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE 12:00 P.M. - LBPD Officer-involved shooting

On Nov. 8, 2023 at approximately 8:57 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of 69th Way regarding a stabbing call. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult suspect inside of a residence holding a knife. Officers ordered the suspect to drop the knife; the suspect refused to follow officers’ commands at which point the officer-involved shooting occurred. 

The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect had stabbed a known female adult victim prior to officers’ arrival, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the suspect and the victim to a local hospital for their injuries.

No officers were injured. Homicide detectives are on scene investigating. The investigation is ongoing. A news release detailing the incident is forthcoming.
