- UPDATE at 11/2/23 at 3:35 p.m.
SWAT Personnel Respond to Person With a Knife Call: On Nov. 1, 2023, at 4:28 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of Atlantic Avenue regarding a person with a knife call. Upon arrival, officers located a male adult suspect in possession of a dirk/dagger, refusing to put it down. An officer from the Mental Evaluation Team (MET) made contact with the suspect in attempts to de-escalate the situation. Following several hours of de-escalation techniques, the suspect still refused to surrender. Officers established a perimeter, officers from the SWAT team responded, and nearby residents were ordered to evacuate and/or sheltered in place. After refusing to comply to officers’ commands, officers initially deployed a 40mm less-lethal round and then later a CEW (Conducted Electrical Weapon), yet the suspect still refused to surrender. After deploying a K9, the suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Once the suspect received medical clearance, he was transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking. He was identified as Patrick Dean Parks, a 44-year-old resident of Los Angeles, who was booked on one count of carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, one count of brandishing a weapon, and one count of resisting arrest. Bail is pending magistrate review. The investigation is ongoing.
