LBPD Blotter - 11/12/23

As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.


Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers investigate a stabbing – On Nov. 11, 2023, at approximately 6:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of Sawyer Street regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening stab wound to the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for his injuries. The preliminary information suggests the victim and an unknown male adult suspect were engaged in a physical altercation, which escalated when the suspect stabbed the victim. The suspect fled on foot prior to officers’ arrival. No additional suspect information is known, and the investigation is ongoing. 

  • Officers investigate a shooting, make arrest - On Nov. 12, 2023, at approximately 12:59 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 2nd Street and Nieto Avenue regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers located ballistic evidence, including bullet casings, indicating a shooting occurred. The preliminary investigation suggests a male adult suspect was in the area when engaged in a physical altercation with an unknown male adult subject, and subsequently discharged a firearm in the air. No injuries were reported. The suspect fled prior to officers’ arrival. While officers were investigating the scene, the suspect returned and was subsequently arrested and transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking. The suspect was identified as Derian Danzall Tasby, a 34-year-old resident of the city of Gardena, who was booked on one count of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of negligent discharge of a firearm, one count of battery, one count of brandishing a firearm, and one count of carrying an undetectable firearm. Bail was set at $35,000. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Officers investigate a shooting – On Nov. 12, 2023, at approximately 3:34 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 6600 block of Downey Avenue regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the lower body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for his injuries. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was walking in the area of Downey Avenue and 67th Street, when he heard someone nearby yelling towards his direction. The victim heard presumed gunfire and observed that he had been shot. The motive nor suspect information is unknown at this time. No other injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.  

  • Officers investigate a no-hit shooting - On Nov. 12, 2023, at approximately 10:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Studebaker Road regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, located evidence, including bullet casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. No injuries were reported, no suspect information is known, and the motive for the shooting is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
