As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.
Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

Detectives have not determined any connection between the following two incidents, however, because the gunshot victim checked into the hospital shortly following this shooting, detectives believe that they may be related:

No-Hit Shooting – 14th Street and Palmer Court: On May 2, 2024, at approximately 8:35 p.m., officers responded to the area of 14th Street and Palmer Court regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located evidence that a shooting had occurred. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.

Gunshot Victim – Undetermined location: On May 2, 2024 at approximately 10:53 p.m., officers responded to a local hospital regarding a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body, in stable condition. The victim stated he was walking in the area of 12th Street and Long Beach Boulevard when he heard the sound of gunshots and was struck in the upper body. The victim self-transported to the hospital. Officers canvassed the area described by the victim but were unable to locate a crime scene. Suspect information and motive for the shooting are under investigation.

- No-Hit Shooting – 100 block of West 49th Street: On May 3, 2024 at approximately 2:59 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of West 49th Street regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located evidence that a shooting had occurred. The preliminary investigation indicates a male suspect was outside and fired a gun multiple times. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
