As part of our ongoing commitment to external communications and providing valuable information to our community, the Department posts preliminary information about incidents that occurred the previous evening, including shootings and stabbings, as well as any other LBPD updates to the Department’s homepage and on the “News” tab of the Department’s website. This page will be updated as new incidents occur.

Here’s a recap of incidents occurring last night:

  • Officers investigate a Battery: On May 21, 2023, at approximately 7:32 p.m., officers responded to the 4200 block of East 4th Street regarding a battery incident. Upon arrival, officers contacted a female adult victim with non-life-threatening injuries to her upper body. The preliminary investigation indicated that the victim’s son, the male adult suspect, choked the victim and struck her multiple times. When police arrived, the suspect barricaded himself alone inside of the residence. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by talking with the suspect, however, he refused to come out of the residence. Officers ensured the victim had a safe place to stay. Detectives are actively investigating.

    UPDATE 5/23/2023: On May 22, 2023, at approximately 8:18 p.m., officers responded to the 4200 block of East 4th Street regarding a battery. The suspect was safely taken into custody. The suspect was identified as Glenn McGuire, a 30-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was booked on one count of misdemeanor battery, one count of misdemeanor destroying a communication device, one count of felony threatening crime with intent to terrorize and an outstanding warrant. Bail was set at $500,000. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Officers Investigate a No Hit Shooting: On May 21, 2023, at approximately 8:20 p.m., officers responded to the area of 69th Way and Butler Avenue regarding a shots call. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim. The preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect vehicle, driven by the male adult suspect, collided with the victim’s vehicle, and fled. The victim followed the suspect vehicle until it came to a stop. The suspect exited his vehicle and fired a gun at the victim. The victim fled in his vehicle and called the police. The victim was not injured, and the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Officers located evidence, including bullet casings and strike marks, indicating a shooting had occurred.  Suspect information and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
